We work in cryonics. You can imagine how often somebody tells us it is a scam.
Honestly, I understand the suspicion.
You pay for arrangements today. The procedure begins only after legal death. And the part everybody cares about most, whether a cryopreserved person can one day return to life, cannot be demonstrated today.
That is an unusual proposition. It deserves serious questions.
If Tomorrow.bio promised that you would certainly wake up in the future, the criticism would be right. We do not make that promise.
Our informed-consent disclosure says plainly that no cryopreserved human can currently be revived, that the required technology may never exist and that no honest probability of success can be calculated.
So the uncertainty is real.
But uncertainty and fraud are not the same thing. Calling something a scam means more than saying, “I think this will fail.” It means somebody is being deliberately misled.
This distinction sounds obvious. In most conversations about cryonics, it disappears within two minutes.
Ask what “scam” is supposed to mean
Before defending cryonics, ask one question:
What exactly do you think is dishonest?
The answer matters because people use the same word for very different objections.
One person means that human revival has not been achieved. Correct. It has not.
Another believes there is no real operation behind the website. That is a claim about Tomorrow.bio today, and it can be checked.
Someone else may trust the operation but think the chance of future recovery is too low to justify the cost. That is a judgement about probability, money and personal values.
And sometimes “scam” just means, “This sounds strange and I do not want to think about it.”
You cannot answer all of these with the same speech.
We saw this clearly when listening to members describe conversations with people close to them. Some relatives questioned the science. Others worried about the company surviving. Others reacted mainly to how unfamiliar the idea felt.
Those reactions could all arrive in the same sentence, but the concern underneath was different.
This is also why throwing ten scientific papers at somebody rarely helps. If their real fear is that the organization will disappear, a paper about vitrification is answering a question they did not ask.
The reverse is also true. A photograph of an ambulance does not prove that future medicine will repair a cryopreserved brain.
First make the objection concrete. Then answer only that objection.
Do not defend a promise we never made
The hardest part of this conversation is keeping three different claims apart.
There is a service we can provide now. Tomorrow.bio can prepare for a member’s case, deploy a medical response team and begin stabilization after legal death.
Where feasible, the team can perform field cryoprotection, cool the patient and coordinate transport to long-term storage in Switzerland.
These are present-day operations. Their existence can be inspected.
There is also a preservation question. How much structure survives ischemia, perfusion, cooldown and storage? We can investigate this with timelines, cooling data, CT imaging and, where consent allows, electron microscopy of small tissue samples.
Those measurements matter because “the procedure happened” is not the same as “the procedure went well.” Our article on cryopreservation quality checks explains what each method can and cannot show.
Then there is the future question. Will medicine ever be able to repair the remaining damage, reverse the underlying cause of death and restore the person?
We do not know.
Present-day evidence should not be stretched into a guarantee about that future. But future uncertainty should not be used to pretend that every present-day claim is unknowable.
This is where many debates become silly. One side points to an operating facility as if a building proves revival. The other points to the absence of revival as if this proves there is no facility.
Both arguments miss the point.
Cryonics is a bet that preserving biological information may leave future medicine something useful to work with. Burial and cremation do not preserve that option in the same way.
A sceptic may still conclude that the bet is bad. Fair enough.
Two people can understand the same uncertainty and make different decisions. One may consider a small, unknown chance worth paying for. Another may prefer to spend the money during their lifetime.
That is not necessarily a disagreement about facts. It may be a disagreement about what each person values.

If the concern is whether Tomorrow.bio is real, do not ask for blind trust. Show the work.
Our public documents page includes case reports and member documents. The case reports describe actual cryopreservations, including operational problems and deviations where they occurred.
I find this important. A company trying to look perfect can publish beautiful statements forever. A company trying to improve has to publish what happened, including the parts it would rather have gone differently.
People can also examine our medical response infrastructure, the equipment used during procedures and the way quality is measured.
The standby and stabilization process is not a science-fiction idea. It is an operating process with real people, time pressure and measurable results.
Long-term care is equally concrete.
Tomorrow.bio’s sister organization, the European Biostasis Foundation, operates the storage and research facility in Switzerland. Its governance documents and financial accounts are public. The facility itself has been operational since 2022.
You can read about how EBF is built and operated. Again, this does not prove revival. It answers the narrower question of whether a serious long-term storage system exists.
Trust should grow from things a person can inspect: contracts, people, facilities, reports, governance and evidence of continuous work.
Not from a confident voice saying, “Believe us.”
If someone raises a good question that our public material does not answer, say so. Sometimes the correct answer is that we need to publish more.
That is not losing the argument. That is how a trustworthy organization should react.
Not every sceptic wants an answer
There is another uncomfortable truth here: some people are not asking a question.
An honest sceptic can tell you what concerns them. They may remain unconvinced after hearing the answer, but at least the conversation can move.
Mockery is different. It uses “scam” to close the subject, not investigate it.
A simple test is to ask what evidence would change the person’s mind. If the answer is “nothing,” you are not discussing evidence anymore.
Stop.
You do not have to turn every dinner, date or office conversation into a sales meeting for cryonics. We certainly do not expect our members to become unpaid representatives of Tomorrow.bio.
The practical stakes are higher when the sceptic is a partner or relative who may be involved after your legal death.
Then agreement is useful, but understanding is essential. They need to know that the procedure begins only after legal death, that Tomorrow.bio must be notified quickly and that the funding and documents should already be arranged.
They may continue to believe you made the wrong decision.
They can still respect that it is your decision.
If a family member is actively opposed, the issue is no longer a debate about whether cryonics sounds strange. It is an operational risk.

The aim of a good conversation is not applause. It is to replace a vague accusation with a clear disagreement.
If the person doubts an operational claim, show evidence. If they challenge an unknown future, admit that it is unknown. If they understand both and still reject the bet, let them.
That is a much more honest outcome than winning a debate nobody was actually having.
TL;DR: Ask what the sceptic actually believes is dishonest. Show evidence for what Tomorrow.bio does today, state clearly what remains unknown and stop debating if the person is only mocking the idea.
